Morawa

Welcome to Morawa

This where I've been living for the last 10 weeks

Small town, 5-6 hours North East of Perth. Bigger than Willalooka, it has a street of shops, a whole street, plus a library with 3 whole shelves of books! And of course, 4 churches! (sadly no dentists!)

The Following photos are all in black and white for 2 main reasons. Firstly, I finally found the black and white function on my camera! Secondly, when I started taking pictures with the black and white, I found (as I hope you will too) that It actually suits the town to be shown in black and white, as it feels like you've stepped back in time, and, in the nicest possible way the town feel black and white, very simple, but not to say that this is a bad thing.

So, firstly, the hotel where I live and work, mostly outside on the deck, as in the evening, the light is really photographic, being the west and all

My Daily work routine is

4:40am Stumble out of bed

4:42am Re waken to find some lunatic splashing water on face

4:43am, realise lunatic splashing cold water on face is me, have made it to bathroom and am washing face!

Walk downstairs, one eye closed and proceed to cook breakfast for 20 insane Australian worker people who can stomach cooked things at 5am!

8am - Finish cooking/washing up, contemplate going back to bed for few hours. if not, will have breakfast

10am - after nap/reading book embark upon 45 second walk to town

5-10 mins aimless wander around town, possibly visiting supermarket, newsagents, Internet cafe, post office and library.

45 second walk return from town (with optional swatting and occasional swearing at flies who see to think my face/eyes/up my nose are a nice place to sit)

Lie in front of air conditioning to recover from walk to town

12 noon Have lunch

Lie in front of Air con to recover from lunch

General lounging, sometimes can manage 5, maybe even 10 mins of direct sunlight before having to lie in front of air con to recover!

5pm, Begin dinner prep

5:30-8:30 general running around kitchen making salads and serving food

8:30-10:30 watch Tv then go to sleeeeeeep as have to get up at 4:45 and do it allll over again

Repeat daily

Anyway, I digress from the visual tour of town

Main Street. Morawa is 100 this year, and last month there was a big town celebration with parades and Fayre's and bands. I was of course, behind the bar (serving, not passed out drunk!)

And, I couldn't visit a location and get at least one sunset pic. And yes it is in colour, mainly because I am a sunset geek, and for me, they are just better in colour.

So that's it, tour complete

I would begin the hype for the next page/place, but i don't quite know where its going to be yet, so when i know, you will too.

Perth Part 2: The Swans, The Sundial And The Sunset

Heya

So I'm basically still continuing the backlog of photo's that I have. These are some more of Perth that I took while going for a wonder along the river




And so, as the Dutch explorers came up the river they saw the. . . . .


Black Swans, hence the name, River Swan

Talking of Dutch Explorers, the Sundial on the Jetty, by the River is dedicated to

Willem De Vlamingh (I have no idea how to pronounce the surname!) who travelled from Amsterdam to Australia, coming up the (now named) Swan River in Late Dec 1696 and then arriving in mainland Perth in early Jan 1697. On the sail below shows a map of his voyage (although not clear in the photo!)

So from the Jetty, you can jump on the ferry (or walk onto the ferry, however you prefer to board) and go across the river to South Perth, which give really nice view of Perth from across the river

So there we go, little less backlog now, and in the next post you can see where I've actually been for the last 2 months!

Fremantle

Welcome to Fremantle, the Port of Perth, Lots going on. I'd say small, but, compared to where I currently am its Huge, with shops, markets and public transport (wistful staring). On the coast, which I was excited about, as it had been ages since I'd seen the sea. I know I haven't written for ages so these are extremely backdated. But here goes, have a wander around and let me know what you think.

A tribute to the fishermen, the monument honors families of fishermen who contributed over the years to the fishing industry

Along the jetty, just picture lots of ice-cream shops and imagine you can smell fish and chips!

Everyone loves a sculpture of a sculptor doing a sculpture

As well as sculptures of sculptures (you know when you say a word too much and it doesn't make sense anymore, well it happened while writing sculpture!), and market places, Fremantle in general has a slightly medieval feel

Fremantle Prison, built as a convict barracks in the 19Th century and remained in used until 1991.between 18850 and 1956 almost 10,000 convicts passed through the system. The prison is now open to the public and a variety of tours take place, both dunning the day and at night. Sadly, my funding ran out so I couldn't tour, but here are a few shots of the outside

Mandurah

Hey

Not much banter on this post, mostly photo's, just to show you some of the surround areas of Perth. This is, as you might have guessed from the title, Mandurah, about an hour south of Perth

The trees are really cool, the look like stars, or at least the branches at the top do, it was hard to get the angle to show you.

More Fountains, Auzzies seem to like them, although I don't know if they change colour as the ones in Adelaide did

Erm, I don't know why, I just thought that it was cool!

These really reminded me of the Exeter Quay, but warmer, with more sun!
