Below are some beaches, some ice and a cute puffin story
Reynisfjara Black Sand Beach
Located in the South Coast of Iceland
Again apologies for the blurry edges, Camera hadn't quite recovered from the Waterfalls. Will invest in a waterproof cover for my next trip
Used as a film location in Game of Thrones Season 7 as 'Beyond the Wall'
The Below Columns are said to be trolls trying to capture ships. However as these trolls were a wee bit slow (both in intelligence and speed) they were turned to stone before reaching the cave above (top photo)
Not a bad spot to sit an reflect...although a lot of the Rocks are quite sharp
A popular place for viewing puffins (apparently) Sadly we didn't see any, however were told a lovely story about them. In the Westman Islands to the Southeast of the Beach, every year, when Pufflings hatch they often get lost between the cliffs and the sea, and will end up in the town of Vestmannaeyar. There, the local children will collect the lost pufflings and return them to the sea
Diamond Beach
So when you think of a beach on the South Coast, its normally somewhere along the lines of white sands, blue Sky's, warm weather, chunks of ice...
Hang on! But here on Iceland's South Coast that's exactly what we found
I mean, I'm from Scotland, and in my local beach growing up there was ice in the ice-creams...but this is something else
But how can this be! I hear you wonder. Well. A short walk up the road will you tell
Jökulsárlón glacier lagoon
So In the below I'm walking from the Beach, the Sea being behind be. The ice breaks from the glacier, floats down to the sea and is then washed up onto the beach.
If ever I need to go to a tranquil place in my head, this is definitely one of them! I'm feeling calm just looking at these!
Apparently scenes from Die Another Day, A View to Kill, Tombraider and Batman Beings were filmed here. I Haven't seen any of the above, but what an amazing place to film
Its the kind of place that is so incredible, I kind of can't believe I was there
Thanks again for reading
Next time we're going thermal.....Geo-thermal
